Have you ever seen a problem in Word wherein you have multiple pages, for example 12 pages, and instead of the page numbers printing out as:

"1 of 12", "2 of 12", etc.

They print out as:

"1 of 1", "2 of 2", "3 of 3", etc.

I cannot seem to find an answer on Micrsoft's site. I ran across this before a long time ago but do not recall the solution.

Thanks!

It's a very easy solution...human error. Check again in the header/footer area where the formatting has been selected. The author has accidentally chosen the wrong formatting, but it can be changed easily by selecting the correct choice.

Sounds like a typo to me.

[page] verses [pages].

Note the letter S in the second bracket.

Hope it's as easy as this!

You've probably got sections in your word document. Headers and footers will intermittently count the number of pages in the section rather than the document, which is not what most people want.

You can find an overall explanation here of what Word is supposed to be doing. But I've found in practice it is intermittent.

If you can't get rid of sections - they are useful for changing column formatting, paper orientation etc - then choose View > Header and Footer and see if you can fix it there. One option is to make the header the same as the header in the previous section (assuming that's OK for your document.

I'm using Word 2002. I'm not certain what difference the various versions make, but it is good to include them.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. This was not a user error or a typo. There are icons you can place in the header or footer that will show Page Number and Number of Pages which is what the user did. The only typing needed it to put an "of" between the two.

It may have been related to sections in the document. I never found out for certain because the user stopped me yesterday to say that the problem resolved itself. It is now printing normally.

Go figure! Thx again!

I have just posted a thread today, having exactly the same problem! It is extremely annoying as when I give the document to someone else it prints fine on their computer! Let me know if you find out.

25061959,

I have just replied to your thread - before seeing this one. The first answer here (from xlhelp) should tell you all there is to know; the other answers are, I'm afraid, not relevant.

Enjoy,
Tony
