We use a Word template in Office 97 that has quite a few (a dozen or so) macros in it. A new document is created from the template and saved with a new name. When I or someone else in the office opens up the new document, the macros usually not part of the new doument. Can anyone explain what is happening to the macros? Shouldn't they go to the new document from the template? Thanks.

Barry

When a new document is created based on this template, the template becomes attached to the document, and is automatically loaded when the document is re-opened. This makes the macros available. Is this not what's happening for you?

Rob: Thanks for the reply. The problem is that the macros are not going with the new document. With the template open, I go to Tools/Macros and see long list of macros. This is a very complex template, with several dozen macros. After I create a document from this template, I go to Tools/Macros on the new document and get a few macros on the list, or maybe none at all.

That doesn't sound right. If you re-open the document you created using the template, does the template open as well? (you should see it in the VBE project explorer, top left of screen). If so, the tools-macros table should include all macros from the template that can be executed stand-alone (i.e., that do not have parameters). If this is not what is happening for you, please provide some more details - I'm sure we can help.

What exactly does the VBE Project Explorer look like - I don't see it.

Barry

It's the tree structure (like Windows explorer) that shows you all the open documents, templates, and their modules etc. It is open as a default in VBE, appearing in the top left corner of the screen. If it doesn't appear, show it using the View menu.

I found the VBE by going to Tools/Macros/Visual Basic Editor. I think I can figure out the rest of this. Thanks for the help.
