I am posting to see if I can get any help with this issue I have run into. I am trying to record a macro for opening a specific document and add it to my toolbar. When I record the macro I am able to step through the process and add it as a button on my toolbar. It stays there until I close Word and re-open it, at which point the button is gone as is the macro. I am running Office 2003 SP3 on Windows XP. I have followed the process on Word Help to record the macro and add it to the toolbar. The strange part is that I went to another computer, duplicated the process and the button remained on the toolbar after closing Word and re-opening it. Any help is appreciated in trying to resolve this. Thanks in advance.

Macros are saved to the normal.dot by default: are you sure that you are creating and saving this macro in normal.dot and ot in another template?

If you are sure, then maybe you have a rogue add-in that is disabling normal.dot saves: Adobe add-ins are a common cause of this. Test that normal.dot is saving correctly by changing something like your default font or page margins and see if Word is remembering the changes after closing.

Thanks for the information. I tested the normal.dot file and changing the default font worked without incident. I even removed the normal.dot file and let it re-create itself. No change in condition regarding the fact that I cannot add a button to the toolbar and have it save. I checked the add-ins under Tools but there is nothing in there. Will check further.
