Good morning,
I created a Word 2003 document and protected such that it allows only the type of editing "Filling for forms". The protection is applied only to a few sections of the document. The other sections are unprotected.
Even when the cursor is positioned in an unprotected section, the majority of the tools in the "Drawing" toolbar are disabled: insertion of pictures is enabled but the icons to add shapes (ie. arrows, text boxes, circles, etc.) are disabled.

Would you know how to enable these functions? In short, I need the user to be able to add arrows and figures on top of inserted pictures.

hi,

Thanks SkipVought.
This thread is related to the topic but does not resolve my issue.

Unfortunately you cannot do this. Although drawings are anchored in sections in the 'text layer' of the document, they exist in a separate 'drawing layer', independent of sections, and it is protected all the time the document is.

Enjoy,
Tony

Hi gercios,

A workaround is to insert the drawings into another document, then use an INCLUDETEXT field in an unprotected Section in your protected document to link to the document containing the drawings. At most, you might need to update the INCLUDETEXT field by selecting it and pressing F9 to get any changes from the source document to replicate in the protected one.

Note that, if the INCLUDETEXT field simply points to the whole source document, it'll insert the final paragraph mark from that document into the protected document. You can overcome that by bookmarking everything in the source document except for the final paragraph mark and pointing the INCLUDETEXT field to that bookmark, but this gets a bit tricky if the only thing in the source document is the autoshapes.

When you're finished playing with the autoshapes, you can (if you want) select the INCLUDETEXT field and press Ctrl-Shift-F9 to break the links. This last step will make the unlinked autoshapes in the protected document inaccessible.

Cheers
