Hi

I have a letterhead graphic inserted into a header (also text in footer), So that users can not mess around with the letter layout, works fine they add their text and print it out.

Here's the problem they are now wanting to send the letter as an attachement and word Grey's out the header and footer! My question, is there anyway to stop this.

Using Word XP

Thanks

Chris Russell

What do you mean "greyed out the header and footer"? When viewing a documents body, the header and footer normally appeared "greyed out" so the user can visually see the difference. However, if you attach the doc file to an email, the header and footer are included in the file so the recipient would see the same thing in their copy of the Word application.

Or have I missed what you're asking?

The header will always appear grayed out if the header is not selected. I would suggest that you put the file into PDF format so that it can be read easily and the headers will appear as they do in print. This is a good solution because there are many companies now that either refuse Word documents or block them because of the high risk of macro viruses.

Hope this helps!

Origianlly I wanted the headers and footers to appear not grey'd out, company image and all that, however I think I'll have to go the .pdf format so that when the docs are sent the receipient cannot change the text.

Cheers

Chris

Or password protect the document so any reader can read the document but would need a password to write to the document. Of course, this does not prevent the user from opening a copy of the document. With PDF, there is less chance the user will be able to "unconvert" it back to a word doc, but each user will require a PDF reader, such as Adobe's Acrobat Reader. Not a big deal in the whole picture of things.
