One of my users is getting a number of errors on exiting Word. I have tried a number of things, including a reinstall but to no avail.

The errors are

Normal.dot
This file is in use by another user (j:\templates\normal.dot)
[OK]

click ok then the next error appears

SAVE AS
Save in templates
File name : Normal

Then the final message is

Change have been made that affect the global template, Normal. Do you want to save those changes
[Yes] [No] [Cancel]

Totally confused please help!!!

A couple of things to look for:

Under Tools, Options,Save tab.

See if "Prompt to save Normal template" check box is checked. If it is clear the check box.

Another possibilty is that that Word is infected with a macro virus.

Hope that helps.

Try searching for normal.dot and rename it. Relaunch word and see if it happy when you exit. Also, the normal.dot is referencing the J: drive. If this is a network drive, check under tools//options file locations tab. Is word using a workgroup template? If so, try taking the path to the workgroup template out and see if it makes a difference. Hope this helps :)

Thanks Both of you I have tried both

I copied the Normal.dot and pasted it locally, I set the user templates to the local directory and set the workgroup templates to the J:
Thanks for your help I just needed a little guidance to get things straight in my head
