MS WORD 2002

I have a document is MS Word which is basically a template with 5-6 tables in it . Main table is summery of sub tables and all the tables has numeric values in it.

Is there a way to use formulas & link the sub tables with the main table(basically sum function)Importing a excel sheet is an option though department does'nt want to change the template.

Also as soon as user start entering numbers in the table or making any changes it brings up the shadow box, thinking box, sand box(iam not sure what we call the image)for 20-25 seconds making the whole process slow.

Need some help

Want to run that by again?

Shadow box? Thinking box????

Why would entering anything into a table bring up...well anything?

i did not explained myself very well. As soon as user click on the cell to enter data , it takes time to show the blinking icon.User has to wait few seconds before making any changes.

Though I will really appreciate if i can get some help in linking the tables with the formulas.

Ok, let me see if I have this right.

You have a Word document. It has tables in it. When you click in a cell of the table it takes an unusual amount of time before the cursor allows text to be typed.

Yes?

Is there anything different about the table? IS it linked to Excel? From the sound of it, it seems it is a normal table that has text in it.

You got it right. No these are not linked to excel , they just have some text in it (numerics). Also i want to link the sub tables with the main table which has sum of sub-tables.

The tables are inserted thru Word and file comes from a template.

Thanks

Aw....I never get to play in the sandbox.

I could be wrong, but sounds like you don't really have a table. If a box pops up before you can do anything, it's likely that you have boxes that have been drawn using the drawing toolbar. Good way to check would be to right click on a cell (?) and see if table shortcuts show up.

Me transmitte sursum, Caledoni!

It is a table & when i right click the cell & it shows table shortcut.

I still need an answer to my other query for adding up tables with the main table

Thanks

If you bookmark each value then you can add up the bookmarks together.

Ex. { = { REF SolarFlashlight } + { REF UnderWaterHairDryer } }

You absolutely have to explain better.

What do you mean inserted thru Word? You have a Word document with tables....so...what inserting? Does this document build the tables?

"file comes from template" - what does THAT mean? Is this a new cloned document from a template?

Sorry, but there something you are not telling. A normal table just does not do what I think you are saying it is doing.

As for summing - probably the best way is as xlhelp suggests, with bookmarks.
