I have a 41 page word document (which can not be separated) that when ever it is saved we get the "Microsoft Word for windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Have cut and pasted into new template, tried to "save as" different name, have sent error report to Microsoft and they recommened update to Office SP3 which made no difference. Tried some of the troubleshooting suggestions from Microsoft Article #826864. Have downloaded recovery tools which recovers only the text and we lose all formating! Does any one know of a recovery tool that would recover everything including all the formating or is there a utility that will tell us where the corruption might be?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you tried some other basic troubleshooting? Say, deleting normal.dot?

If you can't root out whatever's wrong, it's worth starting again.
a) Use cut-and-paste to move the text to Notepad, where it will be simple ASCII text and should lose the bug.
b) Then move the text to a fresh word document, or maybe open the notepad document in Word, if your version of Word allows this.
c) Re-create the original formatting, but without taking anything from the old document, which must be viewed as corrupt.
