Has anybody else encountered the following error? I can't find any reference to this being a known issue with Microsoft...

In a Word 2000 document (containing some text or other), use 'Insert Picture from file' to insert a GIF file. Then right-click and format the picture. Select any layout *other* than 'In line with text'.

Then Save As a 'Text with Layout' (.ans) file (you have to have this converter installed). The resulting ans file (which is just a text file) is completely corrupt!

Any one else found this?

(By the way - using other picture formats caused me 'file permission' errors when I tried saving as Text with Layout - even more bizarre).

I did a test and the text was preserved correctly, only the graphic was turned into garbaged text.

Is the "Text with Layout (*.ans)" format SUPPOSE TO handle graphics? I would infer from the language, "Text with Layout," that it handles text and some, if not all, layout formatting. I searched the internet and didn't find any articles to indicate one way or the other.

I wouldn't expect the picture to be handled, but its the rest of the document text that gets corrupted! I get no readable text at all. This happens on more than one site, so it's not just me. What build of Word are you using?
