Hi

I have Windows XP Pro SP2 and Office XP Pro. I have a Word document on my local hard drive that takes an absolute age to open - it is some times literally 2 or 3 minutes between double clicking it and it finally being viewable. The Word window opens fairly quickly, but then it just seems to freeze with nothing actually being displayed in the window. There doesn't appear to be any excessive CPU or network use while this is happening either.
The file is not particularly big (about 1.5MB and 65 pages) and does not contain any embedded pictures, objects, etc or reference anything that is on a network drive.
This only seems to happen the first time I open the document after powering up the PC - every subsequent time it opens up instantly. If I shut down the PC and re-start it, the problem re-appears.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

Thanks very much

I've just tried, and Word opens up as normal if I open it on it's own. It's only when I try and open this doc for the first time that everything grinds to a halt...

did you do this after a reboot?

My line of thinking is that sometimes on some platforms office has to update files (i think, i'm no expert) and hence do a mini install the first time it loads. If this was the case then that may explain why the first time it loads slowly and others it takes a while?

Does this happen with other word files?

Try copying it (through explorer and by save as and through select-all copy - paste into new document?).
