Word 97

We needed to have word 97 installed on a windows 98 se machine with 64 mb memory. A new 20 gb hardrive, p2 300. I keep receiving a the following error: There is not enough memory or disk space to run the spelling checker. I get this error when trying to type 2 sentences in word. I applied sp 2b to office. I also set the swap file myself. Has anyone else run into this before or could steer us in the right direction?

This error can occur when trying to open/edit documents saved in a different (higher) Word version.

If so, try re-saving the document before editing it (best as *.doc).

If this is not the cause, try an Office repair installation. The Spell checker might be corrupt...

Also: Do you have several Word versions installed? If so, make sure you do a custom install and choose a separate directory, none named "Microsoft Office", but e.g. "MsOffice97".
You might need to de-install first.

There must of been something conflicting with office 97. I removed office 97, rebooted and went through the registry to manually remove whatever was left from the install. Rebooted and reinstalled office 97 and then it was working fine.

Thanks Boys, I just rebooted the PC and reopened the same file and I didn't get the error but I will keep your suggestions in mind if it crops up again. It has happened on this PC a few times so I might just do a reinstall.
