Word 97 Printing Problem. 1

Hello All,

I have a problem with one of my users. He is printing from Word 97 to a networked HP printer. The laptop he is using is an Armarda M700. Each time he prints the print out does not match the print preview, i.e. the font is different to the font shown, and is always the same regardless which font is picked. Also some characters are overlapping while others have large spaces between them. Everybody else with the same setup can print ok from Word and the user has no other problems with other applications, including Excel, Powerpoint or Access. I have reinstalled Word and the HP print driver. Just Can't figure this one out.

I can think of only two possibilities off the top of my head:
1) There is an embedded code in the particular document that the user is printing, or
2) When uninstalling MSOffice, first run the registry cleaner (

before re-installing.

Will try the 2nd. Happens on a number of documents that print ok on other PC's so I don't think the 1st applies.

Tried to the second idea above but still no joy. It's a strange one. If I print to the colour printer it works fine. If I print using the same fonts and event the same text copied and pasted in excel, it works fine. Not sure if it's word with a problem or the printer.

Perhapes I should sit them both down in a quite room until they make friends!

Any more suggestions would be great!

Clean up his hard drive first:

Second, make sure the fonts he's using are Windows fonts and not, for instance, WordPerfect fonts, i.e., Univers or CG Times. Univers = Arial, CG Times = Times New Roman.

You may also want to check printer driver for the printer that causing problems...
