We are doing a ordered list starting with numbers and then progressing to lower case letters. The auto-caps function works in every portion of the Word document except for when you do a numbered list. I double checked in Tools>Options as well as in Tools > AutoCorrect Options but to no avail.

What do you mean by auto-caps? What is or isn't working with auto-caps.

By "auto caps" I mean it will capitalize the first letter of the first word in your list. Word will do this when you do a bulleted list and an ordered list that has letters or Roman numerals but not for a numbered list. It will leave the first letter of the first word of a numbered list as a small letter if you type it that way.

Understood!

Yes, this is a 'by design feature' or 'bug' depending on your point of view: it does not capitalise following an auto-number.
