Often times, I use SmartArt in Word 2010 to graphically illustrate, for example, a project flow. When using the Hierarchy Graphic option in SmartArt, I need to 'label' the arrow or line from the 1st hierarchy to the 2nd-tier hierarchy, etc. I’ve not found a solution in SmartArt, so I use Insert-Shapes-Basic Shapes-Text Boxes.

While text boxes are a good solution, there’s one hiccup that I’ve not been able to resolve. When moving the SmartArt, the text boxes do not move with it. There doesn’t seem to be a Grouping option between SmartArt and Insert-Shapes.

Does anyone have any suggestions besides building the graphic completely from scratch using Insert-Shapes?

Should my question about SmartArt be posted in another Tek-Tip forum?

You can place your SmartArt Object and Text Boxes inside a Frame.
You can then position the Frame within your document.

You can add the Insert Frame tool to your Ribbon using the Options in Backstage view (Ribbon: File tab)

Dear 1726,

It worked like a charm! I knew there was a solution!

Thank you,
