a few of our users on LAN are facing this. Whenever they try to open a word document, the message "Connecting to Printer, Press ESC to Cancel"" is displayed at the bottom and it takes a few minutes for the document to open?. Note that the default printers are LAN based.

How to fix this?????????????

How are they openng the document files?

Gerry

Does the same issue happen if you change the default printer to a local printer if one available or else Microsoft Document image writer or PDF option anything other than the lan printers ?

This would just narrow the issue down. then you could look at the network settings, network card in printers, etc.

Do a quick search in google loads of results you might want to have a look through couple of ones that seem interesting as below:-.

configuring the SNMP community strings resolved the problem for us. Simply assign a get and set community string on the JetDirect card on your printer then configure the printer port settings on your print server; allowing bidirectional communication between the clients and the network printers.

I would suggest removing the printer from the user machine and re-installing it; if possible with a fresh printer driver, if available.

Also, was it Admin install or user install?
