Word 2007 - Please help with text formatting!

OK, just moved to Office 2007 a few days ago at work and I am ready to uninstall it due to the frustration that is MS Word.

Right, in my word document I am trying to change the formatting of some lines of text.

If I highlight a single line of text, the WHOLE document becomes bold.

If I highlight a single line of text and centre it, the WHOLE document is centred.

What the hell is going on? I want to select ONE line of text and make it bold.

How can this be so difficult?

Please help!!!

How are you doing the selection, and how are you doing the formatting? Click and drag, toolbar, keypress etc?

There's no reason I can think of to explain your problem, but obviously something is happening in an odd way.
