Word 2007 Mapi Error

I'm using MS Office 2007 Plus and receive the following error when attempting to send attachment from MS Word 2007:

Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure: "Operation not supported"

I also receive an error when attempting to send from MS Excel 2007 as well.

Several coworkers also received this message after upgrading from MS Office 2000 to MS Office 2007.

Has anyone found a solution for this problem?

I know nothing of this myself but have seen problems reported due to corrupt and/or wrong versions of mapi32.dll and/or msmapi32.dll

Does Outlook 2007 itself work?

Enjoy,
Tony

Yes, Outlook 2007 works fine with the exception of sending attachments from MS Word, Excel, ETC. I have seen this problem in the past but it was because the user didn't have MS Outlook open when sending attachment from Word. I have also seen this problem when a mail profile is corrupt but this is happening to multiple users that just upgraded this week. Two out of the fifteen people that upgraded are not experiencing this problem and I compared settings and they are the same.

Thanks!

The one that I believe Outlook uses is the first one here but there is a mapi32x.dll so I listed both versions.

mapi32.dll version 1.0.2536.0

mapi32x.dll version 6.5.6944.0

I think that's the correct version of mapi32 in which case I don't know any more and don't think I can help. Sorry.

Enjoy,
Tony

Tony,

Thank You for your help. I also tried renaming the mapi32.dll to mapi32.old and used the fixmapi.exe under the sys32 directory and that didn't work either. I may open a incident with Microsoft to get this resolved before we upgrade 150 more users.

Thanks again,

Mark

Tony,

One more thing that I should mention is that I don't get the MAPI error if MS Outlook is closed. It brings up the email and allows me to send it. It then sits in my outbox until I open Outlook.

It has something to do with Outlook running. Very weird.

Sorry, I was a bit abrupt earlier - I had to dash off and as I didn't think I could help, I wanted to say so.

I still doubt I can help, but one more question which may help someone else - are you running Outlook standalone or connected to an Exchange Server?

I understand there are incompatibilities with some versions of mapi32.dll. I wonder if you have more than one version and when Outlook is running it has already loaded a 'wrong' version from some other library but when not, the process forces loading of the 'correct' one. Just a thought - it might be worth a quick search.

Enjoy,
Tony

I am getting the same error message. We are currently running Office 2007 on a 2003 r2 terminal server. I'll post if I find anything.

Looks like Microsoft doesn’t support Outlook and Exchange System Manager on the same box. This problem would be solved if we were to move to Microsoft SoftGrid, but aside from that, anyone experiencing the problem that wants it resolved will need to uninstall the Exchange System Manager. Go to the following link for more info:

I'm just happy that it will only be a problem for the IT department because we are the only ones with the exchange components. Also if MS Outlook is close you can use this feature without any problems. Let me know if this helps you.

Mark

BTW! This is a known problem with Office 2003 and Office 2007.

I dont currently have any Exchange Management tools installed on my terminal server.
