Hello,

I have a dell machine with a zip drive and office 03 in it. I opened a document from the zip drive if word 2003 and made some changes to it. When I tried to save it back I get a message saying I dont have the right file permissions.

I tried a blank zip and still get the same error message. I have unistalled and reinstalled the suite. I have tried the repair option. I looked into the save settings and the properties.

I am stuck do anybody have any idea what is going on.

Thanks a lot

This problem has to do with the way Word creates temporary files when editing. Word has a very complex save routine and needs to create and delete a temp file in the active folder (on the Zip drive in this case). Sometimes, such files are huge -- usually many times larger than the original file. With removable media there are risks.

The best way is to save to your HD and then use windows explorer to copy the file to the removable media.

Thanks xlhelp,

I had an idea that it was something with the temp file. The funny thing is that the file is very small. I can save it on the HD, but I need to back up the file.

So would the fix be copy to HD erase from zip then copy back to zip.

I will let you know if it works.

PS the logo for your website is hot. Very Creative!!
