Could you give a few more details? "keeps crashing" is rather generic.

Crashes when you open a file?
Crashes just starting the application?
Crashes opening a file from explorer?
Crashes when you open a file from inside Word?
Crashes when you try and save a file?
Crashes when you try and do a SaveAs?
Crashes when you try and edit something?
Crashes when you try and open the VBE?
Crashes when you look at it?
Crashes when you .....

Does this happen on one machine?
Are you talking about a number of machines on a network?

Tried a repair on it from the install media? Or possibly just replacing the winword.exe file from another workstation?

Good Luck,

Steve.

fumei - it's only one machine and it seems to be pretty erratic unfortunately. This happens at random times while working on documents.
stevehewitt - thanks, i'll try running a repair.

This same thing is happening to me. I did run repair plus installed the sp2. Now when it shuts down it doesn't log any messages in the event viewer.

I suggest trying a general cleanup first. With all applications closed, go to the user's temp folder. It should be empty. If it isn't just delete everything in it. It is normally located in Documents and Settings, username, Local Settings, Temp.

Once cleaned out, go to Documents and Settings, username, Applications Data, Microsoft, templates and rename normal.dot as normal.old.

Run a full Disk Check and follow up with a full defrag. Test again.

Hi guys.
Thanks for your help but please ignore.I have moved jobs since this post!!!

I had the same problem, after hours of researchs, i finally found the problem :

1) It depends of user profile
so i searched what was the difference between 2 user profiles : 1 that had the problem and 1 that had no prblem; and i found this :

The computer was crashing Word (and Outlook if it was setted up to edit emails with word 2003) in case where :

User was using a specific network printer AND / OR that printer was the default one.

The problem was for me with 2 models of printers :

Ricoh AP1910n
Dell 1700n

Hope it could help someone in the futur

PS : Error message in application event log was :

Source : Microsoft Office 11
Category : None
Type : error
event ID : 1000
User : N/A
