I have a user running WXP pro SP2 using Word 2003 SP3. It will not print to any printer. Excel prints fine, OneNote prints fine, and Firefox prints fine. I have removed all font related add-on software I could find.

Print preview works fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office twice. I have run detect and repair from the help menu several times.

I have gone through the MS KB article here and it didn't work.

Here is the process. Open word and create a new document with generic content. hit CTRL-p and nothing. No dialog box or anything. Hit the print icon on the toolbar - same thing - nothing. Click file>print and nothing.

Any ideas?

If you open an existing document, will it print? Did word ever print on this computer? Have you used system restore?

No document will print. Printing did work. I'll try system restore.

I don't see anywhere that u deleted or renamed normal.dot. Have u done that?

I've done it before on this machine, but not recently. I'll try that first.

normal.dot didn't help. I'll try system restore.

System Restore isn't letting me go back a month. User was on vacation for most October and had this problem before they left.

The only date available to me is today.

I wonder if the system is so junked up that there isn't enough space allocated to have more restore points.

I looked at the settings and it is set to the max (%12) which is 8701 MB.

I have seen it mentioned here that deleting user profile and letting it create again may resolve a lot of issues.

yes, under documents and settings, del/rename user. shut down, power on, and logon again

Windows won't let me rename the users folder in explorer. It says it is a system folder and can't be renamed or moved. I tried it in Safe Mode, also. How have others accomplished this?

Try to recreate a normal.dot and password protect it. How is the computer's virus protection? Any chance of a word macro virus? I am always concerned when restore points disappear.

I removed a couple of trojans. They didn't appear to associate with any word documents.

I password protected normal.dot, but I still can't print.

Can you easily reinstall the printer driver? This is a guess as your other programs print.

I could, but it won't print to any printer. It's like the print command never leaves the program. I can't get a print dialog box open.

I've switched the default printer and the same thing happens.

to del a profile, u need to be an admin or the user needs to be local admin on their own system

I can delete it through the control panel, I'm sure. Is this what you were suggesting?

nope, don't mean that at all. user profile is usually under Documents and settings.

So I log in as administrator and disable macros. It wanted to load an Avery Label macro. Now I'm getting the print dialog and it printed OK. I'm going to uninstall the
Avery stuff and try as the original user.
