Word 2003 always opens in 'Reading Mode' 1

When I receive an email with a Word attachment, the attachment always opens two pages side by side - in Reading mode

I can click 'View/Normal' but I'd like it to default to 'Normal mode'

I've unchecked the option to 'allow opening in reading mode'

Can anyone assist?

presumoing you are in Word 2007.

There is an option

"Open E-Mail Attachment in Full Screen reding view"

In the word options menu.

Just tried it and it works.

I'll search for that - but it's Word 2003 we're using

I don't have 2003 but I saw this someplace:

When you open a Microsoft Word document that you have received as an e-mail attachment, Word 2003 automatically switches to reading layout view. If you don't want to use reading layout view for e-mail attachments, clear the Allow starting in Reading Layout check box on the General tab of the Options dialog box (Tools menu).

So, click Tools, then Options, then General, and untick "Allow starting in Reading Layout".
