I have recently has my PC upgraded from windows 2000 to windows XP. With the upgrade came a new version of officeI have a problem with word.

When ever I select an option from the 'drawing' toolbar I get a big formatting box on my document asking me in large letters to 'create your drawing here'. It confuses the hell out of me. In previous versions you could just put your shape, arrow, whatever directly on to the document
without this box. Is there a way of turning it off?

I am usinge windows version 2002 according the 'about word' option.

Gosh darn it.
Found the problem.

Selecting the 'tools' menu followed by the 'general' tab
gives the option to deselect 'Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes'.

Problem solved.

The drawing canvas is helpful if you are having to 'group' objects and move objects. Another neat trick is if you want to keep the Drawing Canvas turned on, you can hit the ESC key on the keyboard to turn off the Drawing Canvas for a specific instance.
