Word 2000 default dictionary

I have a problem that just started today. A user of word 2000 was typing a letter and every word almost was coming up with a mispell. Well, the dictionary is in French for some reason.

I change it in Word but it just goes right back to French. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Word. Where do I go from here?

The language setting for Windows may have been changed which will override MS Office.

I'm making an assumption, but based on something that happened to me.

In the start menu/all programs/Microsoft Office Tools, select Language Settings. Change the default for MS Office.

I did that and it will take for the time being that I have Word opened, but then it defaults back to French, and French isn't even enabled in the Microsoft Office Language anymore. Any ideas?
