Hi all,

Appreciate this is a bit old now but ive got a XP machine running office 2000 and when word 2000 is opened it crashes (opens up white page but toolbars dont load) and it then runs the CPU at 100%. I have to kill the process to get out of it.

Ive tried renaming the normal.dot template and others for that matter to no avail and also reinstalled and uninstalled and reinstalled.

All the other programs open and are useable no problem.

Thanks
Luke

I have a similar problem - when opening Word on an XP machine, I receive an error message that will only allow me to open the application in 'Safe Mode'. When I do that, all menus, etc., function normally. I have tried to correct the application (didn't work), tried to uninstall the whole office suite and reinstall from scratch (didn't work either). All other Office Suite applications work correctly. Any similar problems out there? Anyone find a solution?

Thanks,
Bill

I've managed to solve it....soughta!

I found out that on both computers that word 2002 (which works) was installed solely on its own but also having the office 2000 professional/premium suite on there.

Whether or not this was causing a conflict im not sure but i uninstalled the word from the suite and the word 2002 still works so have left that on there.

The link you provided was quite helpful in trying different things but sadly didnt help.

Thanks
Luke

Thanks macropod.. Have tried to repair with the Windows Control Panel - no luck. Will try your other suggestions and let you know how it works out. Again, thanks.
