I want to build a computer from scratch using my own wooden case.
Apart from RF radiation and EMC considerations, am I likely to run into instability problems? Does the motherboard have to have a metal ground plane as in a conventional steel case?
Although I completely agree that no ground is "technically needed" for the motherboard and I too test many motherboards on a wooden work top, I would still be inclined to makeup a seperate earth wire between one of the soldered mounting points on the mainboard and the PSU.
Just to be sure.
It can't hurt to be over cautious.
