Hi, 1st timer here
Thanks for viewing this thread. I have an Optiplex620 system. It is still under warranty but dealing with Dell can somtimes be.....I will leave it at FRUSTRATING!
Awhile back my computer quit connecting to the net. I finally used my other computer and connected at the same cable...it connects fine. So I assume it is nic card or something? else. My question is concerns what I saw in the Windows Task Manager/processes. There is a process running called WAPSUL.EXE...I have googled it and searched everywhere, even which has helped me considerably in the past. He has no info concerning this WAPSUL.EXE. I try to stop process in regular mode, safe mode, config mode and it keeps coming back.
Does anyone have info concerning this?
I would greatly appreciate the help,
Thank you,

1.) I am thinking that your WINSOCKs got scrambled, run it and reboot...

2.) I suggest you run a full AntiViral Scan (updated of course), a full scan with an AntiMalware such as Ewido, SpyBot and SuperAntiSpyware (and yes I mean all three, not just one of them)...

you can also do an online scan for Malware/Viruses once you are back on the net:

I agree with BigBadBen that your Winsock stack should be rebuilt, as it sounds like it is corrupt. If you have Service Pack 2 installed, though, do not run WinsockXPFix as it causes more trouble than it fixes under SP2. See faq779-4625 for XP SP2 suitable Winsock repair steps.

Now for WAPSUL.EXE. The fact that you cannot find it on Google is a very good sign. It generally means that no one has identified a file of that name as a bad guy. Using Explorer navigate to the directory containing the file, highlight the file with a left click of your mouse, then right click on the highlight, Properties.

Under the Version tab you likely will find who wrote the software.

Thnx, Bill for clearing up my ramblings, I tend to forget about the SP2 issue with WinsockFix...

Thank you all so much for the helpful sugestions. I am headed off to Colorado Springs for a couple weeks. When I return I will try out the suggestions. I have run Adaware pro and spybot, all clear there, I also run Norton AV Corporate Edition and all is clean as far as I can tell.
Thanks again,
:)

I didn't start this topic but I had a similar problem. I uninstalled Norton on my computer and then couldn't connect to the internet. I went as far as to replacing my nic card, but no luck. I just couldn't figure out what was wrong with my computer. Thank for the tip Ben, I was about to trash my computer.

Thank you all for your help. I am sorry it has taken so long to resolve and send the thank you. I did run all the spyware that bigbadben suggested and found lots of evil little creatures. I tried to do the winsock rebuild but I don't think I wqs sucessful so I ran the system restore and now have Inet again WOOHOO!! Thanks again for all the help:)))))

If you clean malware, then do a system restore, you likely restored some of your malware.

Do a malware cleanup again post-system restore.
