Won't Automatically Shut Down

When I had Win98 on my PC it would automatically shut down when I closed Windows. Now I have WinXP on the same box and when I shut down Windows it stops with "It is now safe to shut off your computer", or something like that and I have to manually push the on/off button, (a hard life I know). What do I have to do to get it to shut off by itself?

In XP this is usually a sign of outdated or corrupt drivers....make sure that you have all of the newest drivers for all of your cards.

Look first in Control Panel, Power Options, to see if there is a setting to enable Advanced Power options or Advanced Power Management. If so, enable the features.

You sometimes have to do a little research and testing:

Microsoft Shutdown Troubleshooter

Elder Geek Shutdown Troubleshooter

Windows XP Shutdown Troubleshooter

One other to mention also...
some times the BIOS needs to be upgraded.. to be XP compatible.
