I am all there is on this XP machine. No problems with anything else. System Info gives "WMI server access denied, have an administrator change permissions"
Can set all permissions everywhere including WMI services. WMI is running and performs other services. Not a big deal since info can be gotten by other means. What am I missing?

You are missing some permissions, most likely.

Roger Abell, MS-MVP:

"An administrator does not have, nor by design is it supposed to have, full access to everything.

The Administrators group by default has no permissions
on the folder System Volume Information for example.
One can place an Administrators Read ACE on it if one
wants to look within, but it is best to limit it to Read for looking and to use the interfaces to trigger the system to manage what is within.

You need to use the Advanced button and look at the
specific special permissions being granted, and at what
they apply to. Creator Owner is just a place holder for
the account that will end up owning something to which
the permission grant applies once it is created. You will
very possibly need to highlight the ACE and click the
edit button to do this."

See this thread for a fix for your problem:

Thanks bcastner. I can see I do have misconceptions. Don't have time to check it out now but I'll let you know.
