Thanks guys.. for not spamming me with playgirl.. I know it had to be tempting!!! LoL

That was a hilarious link Dalt! I sent it to my Uncle.. Here it is if anyone else is interested... Be careful or b*checker may hack ya'.. LoL I bet this guy is still telling stories of how some IRC clowns hacked him.. LoL

What did you do in the Navy Burt? Thanks for serving by the way! So were you an HT?

AT^3 (Avionics Tech), but mostly prepping and running around the flight deck of the USS Independence humping around tie down chains, hydraulic fluid, you name it, for F-14A's.
Oh, the stories I have about script kiddies in chat rooms...I used to chat in the rock rooms, kiddies would try and boot me, I'd start a boot mirror daemon, and all their little port 5050 UDP packets would hit themselves...
Not to mention the shutdown.bat I renamed to bank_account_info.jpeg...lol

Burt

Burt,

You said -"Oh, the stories I have about script kiddies in chat rooms..."

I had a prof here where I work that was a programming guru, he built a 'bot and let it loose in some social forums, whenever someone used the term "blonde" it would post a blonde joke, this of course would prompt a "don't make fun of blondes" and of course - another joke..............

He had a database of hundreds of blonde jokes and this would go on for hours :) He would demo it in his class but NEVER show them how to do it - just answers lots of well thought out questions!!! he ALWAYS made us think about programming!!!

Yeah---saw a bunch of those auto reply bots...like porn bots that would respond to keywords like "fake" and "bot"..."I AM NOT A $#@!ING BOT" or "I am real, (name of person who said 'you're a bot')".
Pretty cool stuff. It's all in VB, I believe.

Burt

Burt,

Yes, you nailed it - VB - he is a manager for a VB programming company and used to teach for us partime - I took a class VB Script and Active X from him back in 98, did a killer Beatles webpage in ActiveX !!!

Those 'bots are very funny when you see people interacting with them like they are real posters!!

That's awesome Burt.. I am an AT! Crossing to the IT side of the house now! I have been on the Harry S. Truman! It was an experience! I never had the opportunity to work on the Tomcat but I have seen many of them up close! I have a thing for Navy heritage and you can't help but love the most awesome war fighter ever to take flight! I am glad to see that everything worked out for the better there Burt! Good job with the IT career!

I used to play with VB (Got an A in that class.. LoL) but hated it when VB.NET was released. I played with it some but felt as if they broke the best RAD (Rapid Application Development) programming language ever.. .NET was much more complicated and just took longer to code.. There was an awesome site back in the day on .NET.. Belonged to a kid working on his bachelors/masters.. can't remember.. The site was icsharpcode.com/net or iseesharpcode.com/net but just checked and the site that is out there now isn't the same.. Guess he moved on!

I used to toy around in IRC.. Loved BitchX when I first discovered it! In fact, that was my first exploration in scripting.. Started out scripting IRC clients.. nothing fancy just silly stuff like custom replies and my nick above the address bar.. LoL Have been meaning to dive back in and delve a little deeper.. Back in the day I just felt like I was in a place where everyone knew something I didn't.. Truth of the matter is that most really did because I was a complete newb to the networking scene.. Still am in some ways but that is changing.. albeit slowly! LoL

I noticed that this thread is pretty high in the Google results for WireShark as well as CISCO so I thought that I would bring it back for review.. Anyone have any WireShark, Ethereal recommendations regarding videos? Anything that they may have found since I posted this way back when?

Only other thing I really have is the book "Practical Packet Analysis"...Haven't picked it up, but looks good.
