Wireless is accessed through a control or access point. Is your Host or Server running as a DHCP server or is your router assigning an IP range. Also, is this a home setup or a business setup?
In answer to your question, If the host is in standby or hibernation, then the wireless client acts like a network card. It has to wake up the host to transact business, if the host is not configured for 'wake-up' on lan, then the host will continue to 'sleep'.
Remember, the client computer on wireless is just another network card.
