Wireless network gives constant ip address conflict

I just installed two access points, one downstairs and one upstairs using a bridge to connect the two. Everything worked fine the first night. Now, all of a sudden, i get constact "windows ip conflict" error messages on the pc upstairs. The DHCP is on downstairs, but only for two users. The bridge and ap upstairs, as well as the pc all have manually assigned IPs. Everytime i switch the ip of the pc, i continuosly get that error. What am I doing wrong here? I am in the process of enabling WEP 128 on all devices.

But would you say the neighbor is following my ip change with some sort of sniffer or what? It doesnt matter if i choose an ip on the high end or low end or even change subnets, within minutes, i get the ip conflict error. What can i do? Change channels or something?

Lets start with that statement.

You have a broadband router connected to a ?
From ? (switch, broadband router) you have two APs in:

. a direct cable connection to the switch/router
. in "Bridge" mode -- AP-to-AP

. is the DHCP server from a broadband router? Or, as you can in some cases, is DHCP being handled by the downstairs AP?

. is all other firmware offers to provide DHCP disabled on modem, or the second AP? In other words, is there only one unambiguous DHCP server on the entire LAN segment?

It would help if you gave manufacturer and model # information for all equipment being used.

**I have a cable modem connected to a BEFW11S4 ap downstairs with dhcp enabled for 1 user(the pc).

. in "Bridge" mode -- AP-to-AP
**I have a second ap upstairs, same model connected to a WET11 bridge. The ap and bridge have manually assigned ip's.

"The DHCP is on downstairs, but only for two users."
**The downstairs ap is only device handling DHCP.

**All Access Points are using the same channel.
**Both APs and the bridge are set to the same SSID and SSID broadcast is disabled.

** I have also enabled WEP and disabled WEP. Makes no difference.

It only takes a minute or so after changing ips for the upstairs pc to get a "windows ip conflict error"

go to another pc, ping the problem ip address, and then do an arp -a. this will give you the mac address of the device that is responding to arp requests for that ip address. my guess something is going on with the bridging you have goin on. one of the wireless devices. i'm still a little confused as to how the network is physically connected:

connected how? wirelessly?

Okay, let's see if I can make this less confusing.

I have two differents LANs. One upstairs and one downstairs.

The one downstairs is connected to the linksys ap and a cable modem for internet access. The SSID broadcast is on.

The upstairs LAN is connected to another linksys ap(same model) and a linksys bridge. The bridge and ap upstairs have manually assigned ips. Everytime I setup the pc upstairs with a manually assigned ip, i get the ip conflict error in XP. If i change it, the error follows.

For now, I have changed the ap upstairs to a regular linksys router and left the bridge in place. It connects to the downstairs network and I'm working 100%.

I'm still wondering what that ip conflict is all about though.
