Hi
I have a safecom wireless router and USB pen antenna.
the mani pc is upstairs with the router, the other pc is downstairs.
Is there any reason why one day I can connect and download at 200K per sec, and then the next day I get either limited or no connectivity or it hangs for ages getting network address (think thats the wording) Nothing has been moved.

Also is there any benefit by using a PCI card for the receiving pc as opposed to a USB stick ?

Thanks

Steve

I have a similar setup. Main PC with PCI Card/antenna in same room as Router laptop used in various other rooms around the house, and I've found that even things such as closed doors between rooms will diminish the reception.
My main PC with the PCI card is about to be changed to a USB receiver, as the PC is in a desk, and consequently, the antenna is at the back, causing the reception to hover around low / very low (Router and antenna are about 20 feet apart). Still works OK 90% of the time.
My laptop uses a wireless PC card, and reception with that is good for at least 100 feet.
Now and again, I get a BAD connection, but simply selecting to "repair" the connection disabled the router and then re-enables it and connects and then it's fine

Hope it helps !

Sometimes the make and model of the router you are using can be the problem. I use a Network wireless router that is actually a Linksys derivative. Every now and then the power to the router must be recycled in order to get and stay connected. I have had times where the connection was good and I was using internet and email and then could not unless I recycled the power. I have had to pass this information on to quite a number of people who have reported that althought the solution is a nuisance, it works. I have a Cisco access point that I am about to try to alleviate the problem.
