Hi, I've just moved into a new share house where a few lads are putting together a wireless lan (all windows machines) - I spend all day looking at and fixing windows machines so I was thinking of getting an ibook with a wireless card - would this work with a windows based wireless lan or should I have more info before even posting this question?
Thanks!

funny enough, I'm about to post a question related to wirless lan cards. But in reference to your issue, as long as you are able to install a wireless lan card (like airport) into you mac, you should be able to configure it to use the propper wireless protocol. You might need to make sure that your card supports this protocol... in all likelihood you're using 802.11b for you windows lan, which is used by most cards.

Hi, thanks for the reply.....I suspected that an airport card ran 802.11b but knowing next to nothing about macs I thought it best to double-check. I reckon a mac would be a nice change from using windows machines all day (not that I have anything against windows but you do need a change now and then ;) )

I felt the same, i use a windows machine all day either programming in VB or what ever else. So i purchased an apple laptop, it is fantastic, look's the biz it has a good battery (nothing like what they advertise though) and to cap it all off, Office X (mac) is SO much better than office for the PC (xp) Entourage is leagues above Outlook.

I have Airport 802.11b (haven't used it yet though) cabled networking works like a dream with pc's . no probs at all.

Note however: if you are looking to play games on the Mac against pc's this is fine if the game has a Mac version also. But Virtual PC cannot make use of your mac graphics card, it only uses about 2 or 3 mb. of memory for windows.

Good luck!
