Hi there

im attempting to set up a laptop to a wireless router in work!

now the laptop has wireless built in & the wireless router is a linksys wireless g!

i have used all the necasery info - ip address, subnet, default gateway!

great,,the wireless connection is connected!

?? still cant access the internet!

ive entered the proxy we use on our network and still no joy!

ive also got a connection doctor that says there is no response from the default gateway!

not sure where to go from here!

some help would be appreciated!!

thank you in advance!

If there is no response from the default gateway, then make sure you indeed have the correct default gateway in your IP Stack. Do ipconfig /all and verify that the correct gateway is configured. If it is then try to ping it. If you can't ping it then find out if you have some security control in place that's only allowing certain devices to communicate with the gateway. It would probably be helpful to post your ipconfig /all results here and let us view that.

i have ping'd the default and got 4 replys, everything was fine with the default, i did not configure the routers start up page so i cant access it as i do not have the username & password, ive used the defaults but no joy!

have you got dhcp enabled or set it yourself? My wireless router does not send dhcp to clients the windows 2000 server does and the default gateway is NOT the wireless router.

eg, the wireless router has IP 10.0.0.2
the dhcp hands out ip range 10.0.0.5-10 and gateway 10.0.0.1

If i manually add an ip of 10.0.0.3 I can connect to the router but if my gateway is 10.0.0.2 I get no further.
