We have Baystack switch stacks in the closets for wired connections. We also have a Cisco wireless network that ends up going back into the production network to access the same VLAN's via wireless. Many folks end up sitting at their desk with the Ethernet wired interface plugged in and the wireless also established. Is three a "best practice" to automate the disable of wireless NIC when wired is plugged in?

Check with the laptop vendor. I've seen tool's for Thinkpads and Dells that will disable the wireless nic when the wired nic is enabled. The Thinkpad tool is called Access Connections. It is not perfect so test it in your environment.
