Here is what I have

Fic Az11 motherboard.
Hitachi DVD model Gd2500 player
Hp 8100 cdr-rw writer
WinXP Pro with SP2(new install)
First both units are set to CS(Cable Select).

If I plug in the cdwriter as master then the dvd player is not seen.

However if I plug in the dvd play as master and cdwriter as slave then both uints are seen.

If I only plug in one unit to head connecto then that unit is seen. I have tryed both units as Master and both will work independently but not together.

Any idea as to what the problem is here? I did not think there was rule this must be plugged in first and this second.

Can anyone explain what is going on here.

All i know is sometimes this happens. But i see they work as master and slave.
Obviously one of them is not set up to handle CS.

yeah good thing ,some times this happens the drives do not accept cable select, instead use them in whaterver condition they run better.

Another thing, some will work only with an ide 33 cable, while others will work with either an ide 33 or an ultra 66\100 cable.

I did try changing cables but that did not work.
It seems to be the positions on the cable.
The DVD must be the master and cdwriter has to be the slave.
I did not think it matter but apparently it does.

The only other thing is the position of the drive in the "My Computer", I have 2 harddrives, 1 dvdrom and cdwriter.
the harddrives are paritioned.
It really messed up the lettering on the drives. From what I have read there is no way to fix it.
So my DVD player is J: and my Cdwrite is F: even though the
DVD player and Cdwrite share the Secondary ide cable.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I learned something new about ide .
