WinXP IE - can't browse secure pages (ActiveX issue?)

Hi..I'm using IE 6.0.2800.1106 SP1 and all of a sudden I get 'Page cannot be displayed" whenever I try to enter a secure site.

Any idea?

I changed all web settings to default. Even removed all programs in Windows Components and re-added them.

My ole32.dll is version 5.1.2600.1106 and comcat.dll is 5.0.2600.1.

Please help!

The weird thing is that when I use Netscape, browsing on secure sites are fine!!

I am having the pretty much the same problem, but I have the problem with Hotmail.com only.
Other sites are fine.
If you find a soln please post it?

Why did you mention those two dlls,ole32.dll and comcat.dll ?

I mentioned those dll files because I was reading another thread about ActiveX. Sometimes a prompt will state not all page content will be shown due to ActiveX settings.

It was suggested that those dll files could be related.

I'll definitely post the solution once I find it..no one should go through this!!! hahah

FOUND A SOLUTION!!! I got it a while ago but forgot to share til now. Here it is..

go to START -> RUN -> type
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wintrust.dll

presto!! now tell all those that need it, and i know it's not just me. no one should go through the hell i did. thanks for everyone's tip anyway.

This is a symptom of a bad situation. Registry corruption at the least. You can find a whole list of things to try at:

You can probably find other lists of such desperate measures as well.

My advice is to at least do a repair install or better yet format and reinstall WinXP at the next opportunity. Sooner or later you'll have to anyway.

Causes? Almost anything. Shutting the computer off ingraciously might be the top cause. I'm suspicious of "clever" products like the Norton suites myself.
