Get error message when opening Outlook "Unable to open your default folders. The information store could not be opened". This user machine had the w32/nachi.worm virus which was discovered after I applied the MS security KB824146(MS03-0239)patch,latest DAT files, and other critical patches. Had not been updated since April!
Have already uninstalled all hotfixes and SP1, created another mailbox, uninstalled and re-installed Outlook and Office. Still cannot open the mailbox, get same message. Read an article talking about re-istalling TCP/IP but cant get there in XP. Ready to recover system to factory install. Any help appreciated! [morning]

I experienced this problem. I found the issue isolated to a single user on a single machine.

The corruption of data in the profile was the cause.

I renamed the profile directory of the user. Then I logged in as the corrupted user to make a new profile directory. Finnaly, I successfully migrated the desktop, favorites, and My documents directory to the new profile.

Yes, Outlook had to be resetup for that user.

QOTD:Computers never make mistakes they are only given bad instructions.

Change the primary NT account log into the profile form different machine (this will verify it is a PC issue and not the User.

If this works then; change primary nt account back to original user, log onto the problem pc with Admin user. Re-name "UserProfile" to "OldUserProfile" or what ever re-create the mail profile in Outlook and then move favourites, Doc's etc. across to the new profile.

Should hopefully work.
