WINWORD.EXE - APPLICATION ERROR

I'm wondering if someone could offer some advice on a problem i keep recieving on a number of machines.

Users have the ability to do a mailmerge which they can then attach back to a diary entry. this is all fine and the work is saved. However upon closing word, they recieve the following message.

WINWORD.EXE - APPLICATION ERROR
The instruction at "0x********" referenced memory at "0x********". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program.

Different Office versions are affected Office 2003 sp2, office 2002 sp3, office 2000.

~Repairing and detecting of word doesn't resolve
~Re-installing word doesn't resolve the problem
~The removing of our software, running a registry cleaner and re-installing doesn't resolve the issue.

Any ideas would be greatly appriciated as although the error doesn't cause data loss, having to click OK is causing the users frustration.

A few questions, suggestions

Do you have any plug-ins on those machines?

Any chance of spyware or adware being present?

Change printer driver (or printer) on one of the machines and see if that makes a difference.

Update or change video driver and see.

Me thinks roulette will drop at printer driver.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Im looking into the possibility of Spyware or adware being present.

I did change the printer driver and initial i thought that had resolved it, however the problem is still there.

Also will try and the update/change the video driver.And get back to you with the results.
