I know that this is likely a stretch, but I am running WinSPM r7 under Windows 7. Well, trying to run is a better phrase I suppose :-/ What I'm running into is when the internal modem is dialing out it fails due to there being no dialtone listed as the error message.

When I try to dial out using other software like Hyperterminal I hear the DTMF's being rattled off. But WinSPM just gives me the dialtone and doesn't appear to try to dial anything.

I've verified the TAPI modem settings, in terms of 8-N-1, 2400 baud, no flow control, no compression, no error correction, etc. That all appears good.

Should I just give up? I'm in a pickle because my old Windows XP laptop died and all I have is this new Windows 7 laptop. So any bailouts would be huge :)

Thanks! As a matter of fact I am running a dual code duo CPU laptop now. So I might check out that virtual XP mode. Since I rarely have to touch our two site's Merlin PBXes I do have a spare older laptop that still has a serial port on it too. It has XP and I will likely load WinSPM on it and just break it out when I have to patch into one of our Merlins.

Since I'm not an independent consultant and just support the Merlins in-house that should suffice. But I will still check out virtual XP since I'm sure I'll run into other incompatible apps!

Gave this a shot. Had to map COM1 in XPM to COM3 in Win7. Still received a TAPI error when trying to connect using WinSPM. Looked in the modem setup in XPM and was able to query the modem successfully, however. But WinSPM immediately threw the TAPI error.

I know that Win7 x64 doesn't support TAPI, so I might try to upgrade my WinSPM version perhaps. Maybe this way XPM will work okay. We'll see. This is more of an exercise than a necessity since I have another laptop with a serial port for a direct connection and a modem for a dial-in connection...

Upgrade to winSPM R9 it is on the avaya website. I use win7 and winSPM9 and have no problems. My laptop doesn't have a com port either so I purchased a USB to Serial adapter and that works well too.
