I am having trouble installing WinSPM on Windows 8. I don't have a disk, bug I am trying to download from online sources. It seems like every way I try I keep getting this error on the install. Windows cannot find 'C:pROGRA~2\AVAYAS~1\WinSPM\WinSPM.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. Has anyone ran into this, or has anyone successfully installed WinSPM on windows 8? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It seems this problem keeps happening when it is trying to load the BDE registry. I also have read about the problems with the synaptics touch pad. I have one and will turn it off while trying to load again and see what happens.

you will need to install a virtual machine program for windows and install XP , have been able to install on windows 7 and work , but could not ever get it to work windows 8.1 , trouble was with the usb to serial would never connect in the virtual mode

Yes I have figured that out now. For any one else with these troubles, the only way I know to have close full functionality of some xp programs on window 8, Is to download a virtual machine program, then Install a licensed copy of xp on the virtual machine program. I don't have a licensed copy of xp. Also for Windows 7 users, there is and xp mode you can download on Windows' website without having to buy a licensed copy of xp. I have found a good deal on some panasonic tough books with Windows 7 and I believe I'm just gonna go that route. Windows 7 should be a viable\update friendly OS for quiet a while, with the ability of running xp mode for the older phone systems. And also the tough books have a modem with an rj11 port, and a db9 serial port. So that does away my serial and modem adapters for my "modern" laptop anyway. And it is almost bullet proof. Just thought I would share some of what I learned in my day and a half of research. Thanks!

The best (and easiest) way to do this is to download it from here:

Then, once you install it, change your COMPATIBILITY SETTING to XP.

You shouldn't need to create a VIRTUAL MACHINE.

I've done it that way on my WINDOWS 7 and WINDOWS 8 machines.

That is one of the sources I tried on my windows 8 lap top. I used compatibility mode, Service pack 3. I always got the error message from my first post. I just successfully installed it on a windows vista laptop from that source you linked Merlin Man. But just out of curiosity, is your Windows 8 64 bit or 32 bit. Mine is 64 and I think that might have something to do with it. I've read from this forum and others, I think , about having problems with 64 bit versions of windows.

I run windows 8.1 64 bit. Ran compatibility mode for xp service pack 3 runs well. Once and a while freezes and have to reboot.

Mine was *.1, 64 Bit. Right now, however, I have that machine running WIndows 10, and IT DOESN'T LIKE SPM (Yet).

I don't need it just yet 'cause I still use my Windows 7 Machine, that sits next to it, for SPM.

That's interesting. Thanks for the responses. Have no Idea why it wouldn't work on mine. I tried it several times. Wasted hours to no avail and finally just gave up on the windows 8 machine. I hate that though, I don't like giving up.

I got my windows 7 32bit machine in. No problem at all with the winspm 9.0 download in the link merlinman provide. Thanks again for the help!
