I have just received and replaced my legend processor cke4. I am now trying to connect through the admin port with winspm and get the connection error.

I am using a 355A adapter however, the adapter does not plug directly into my laptop so I am using a male to male adpater which has 25 pins in it to plug into the 355a adapter on one side and into the laptop on the other side.
I tried the baud rate at both 1200 and 2400 and cannot connect

Is this adapter my problem?

Can I do any programming at the phones themselves or do i need to connect through winspm to do any of this. I do not have the big bulky programming console.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you don't have a Console telephone, you need to program system parameters through WinSPM. If you are just programming button features, you can do that from the phone you want to program by pressing Menu and then Program.

As far as the WinSPM, are you sure you are trying to connect with the proper com port? It sound like you have the proper connections. 9 to 25 adaptor from your computer to the 355Af, then a straight through cable into the admin port of the processor.

I do not have an adapter that goes from the 25 pin to the db9. I think this is what I need. Are these adapters all pinned the same way?

You HAVE to use your computer's 9-pin port - not the 25 pin. So you need a 9-pin to 25-pin adaptor at the 355AF end. Then, you should be OK at 1200 baud.

You can buy a 9-pin to 25-pin adapter at any Radio Shack or computer store - just make sure you get the correct male/female connection type to match the 9-pin cable from your PC to your 25-pin input at the 355 AF adapter. From the 355AF adapter you just run a piece of straight-thru - NOT TWISTED - RJ-45 LAN patch cord.

If you don't have the connector just connect to an analog card in the system. Then use WinSPM setup a site.Set it to dial *10.That will allow you to log in to the system

That will work - if you have an 012 or 016 T/R module with Ring Gen or a Ring Gen in your power supply. Then, all you need is an RJ11 standard phone cord from your laptop modem to an open 012 or 016 port. BAUD setup is identical.
