WinSPM 6.0 connection problem

I can connect fine with SPM r3 run from the command prompt under Windows 2000.

I installed WinSPM 6.0 and set it up for an internal connection. I initiate the connection and get a handshake from the modems. After the connection appears to be complete, 'Enter Password' is displayed on the right hand side of the status bar. At this point the WinSPM form seems to loose focus and I'm forced to use Task Manager to shutdown the WinSPM application.

When the form looses focus, it's as if a password dialog box has opened as a non-visable Modal form.

Any Ideas? Anyone run into a similar situation?

If you do not have the right password, it will just sit there and spin its wheels. The default password is "craft4", give that a try

I know that either starting with WinSPM Version 6 (and even since upgrading to Version 7 recently) there are bugs with the password entry form. I have logged in as craftr4, checked a couple of things, disconnected, and reconnected only to get an 'incorrect password' error when entering in the same craftr4 password.

Even after completely exiting the program, toggling Caps Lock a few times, etc. I still couldn't gain access. Coming back and trying about 15 minutes later proved successful. Strange...

I know this is an old post, but was the solution ever found. I am having the same problem but with WinSPM 9.0. After dial-up the window freezes with Enter Passwork in the status area. The password box never pops up and I have to kill it with Task Manager. Any ideas?

Dial up is pretty much a crap-shoot based on the quality of the dial-up connection.

I have had clients that I could almost never dial into, and even some that just go whacko in the middle of a session.

If you are hitting copper, try a different trunk in their hunt group, or, have the operator or someone on site call you and then try to connect.

Lot's o' luck!

I am on-site. It worked a couple of weeks ago. The modem connect sound like it connects the password box just pop up and WinSPM is basically froze after.

I would double check the TAPI (Modem) settings, and perhaps reload the software.

Also, you might try a different T&R Port than the one you are using.

Of course, you could have a problem on the extension wiring to the switch.

One of my clients had a FAX that was always "IFFY", and replacing the jack at the FAX end of the wire fixed it.
