I am trying to educate myself on the HTTP protocol by using 'sockets' and an oreilly book. The oreilly book provides a web-site,

http://www.joes-hardware.com.

Does "winsock.connect

http://www.joes-hardware.com"

use my dns to convert the url name to an ip address? Where is the documentation for winsock.connect? It is not listed as a winsock method in the on-line help. Is there a state-change event?
