I am considering puting win2k server on my workstation instead of win2k professional.

What are the pros and cons or this?

In adition - if I do make my workstation a win2k server - is it treated like win2k pro for connecting to a terminl server or do I need to purchase a TS cal for the machine.

thanx

It depends on what you want to do with your machine. If you want to use it as a management machine, W2K pro works just fine. I don't think you would gain much by making it a server. If you want to manage your network, then install the adminpak.exe from the i386 directory of a W2K server cd and it will give you all the tools an AD integrated W2K server would have.

You would not need to buy a single ts cal for a server machine though, all W2K OS's come with a client license.

Of course, you could make it a dual-boot machine. That's always fun! Plus you could see for yourself what benefits you would gain from using one over the other.

It seems like alot of expence for little gain.

Why not add Admin pack to 2000 Pro and use TS for the rest.

Win 2000 pro is just as stable as Server if you treat it like a server.

!!A good cup of Tetley keeps the madness at bay!!

And you would need a Server license to put it on your workstation.
