On my network we have just created some mobile VPN`s into the network; but since these have been created I cannot give my WINS server an internal IP address of 10.0.0.2; every time I change it to this and exit, I will go back in and find the IP address has failed over to 0.229.0.184 which in itself is a very weird address.

Any thoughts would be greatly received.

You'll have to give us more information.... not sure what you are meaning.

Using a WIN 2K server as WINS server amongst other things, since we had 5 mobile user vpn`s installed on our router my WINS server has not been working and this is because it keeps assigning itself an ip address of: 0.229.0.184 as stated in my original post.
When I try and set it back to an IP on our LAN range (10.0.0.2- 255.255.255.0) it will allow me to make the change, but when I re-enter into the WINS set up screen th IP has reverted to 0.229.0.184.

Thats a little clearer.

Not sure where that address is coming from though, I presume that this is only WINS doing that and the server itself is fine (correct IP and everything)?

This isnt a multiple adapter machine or got multiple addresses assigned to the one adapter?

It is just WINS which is being effected and has all correct IP info.
The WIN2K server has the IP 10.0.0.2, and I have to input this into the WINS server set up.

I cannot figure out where this weird IP (0.229.0.184) is coming from either... or WHY that particularly weird IP keeps being added to my WINS server settings!

dont know what else to do other than re-installing WINS from the W2K cd

When you say WINS settings, do you mean in the snap-in when you look at the server it has "SERVERNAME [ipaddress]" is it the bit in the square brackets that is wrong?

If this is the case I would say its definetly something to do with multiple adapters or IPs....

Yes it is...

I will check these again.

Thanks alot for your help.
