I have a strange problem.

I have 2 wins servers on 2 sites (one Win2k server and the other Windows NT4 SP6). I am trying to add their WINS server to our list but it comes up "attempting to connect" then comes up "Access is Denied". I have established trusts between the domains and have added the Administrator account to their administrators group, however it still doesn't work.

A very odd thing is that I ping our exchange server in the UK and it routes via our head office in North America.

When I added the remote Wins server to the list on our domain it said it couldn't validate the name.

I can ping their server by name and IP (and they can likewise), but when it comes to sharing wins data it won't have any of it.

Please help as I have got users screaming at me to get data from their site over the wan.

One furthur level is that the remote server has 2 NIC's, when I ping the server by name it DOES NOT come up with the IP address that the WINS server has been assigned (it's bound to nic 2)...

Cheers and please help meeee!

Why is it bound to a different nic?

WINS on a multihomed computer could be the issue. You didn't mention how you connect to these two domains. Assuming this is a site to -site VPN, that will add two more conenctions into the computer.

Well they can browse our site but we can't theirs, which makes me think it's a wins problem between our 2 sites. They run win2k server we run winnt4. If I ping their server by name the IP that comes up is NOT the one they use for their WINS.

I can ping their server by name but it just seems to resolve it to the wrong IP address.

Our sites connect via a Cisco Pix to Pix connection (so it's VPN). The ping times are just bizzaro too. Takes them less time to ping from HongKong to Toronto than it does to the UK...3 times less in fact... weird.

Cheers

Well, we need more information to help. Give some details such as ip addresses, routing table, DNS and WINS.

On the replication tab of the wins server, do you have the proper name listed for replications? Are they push/pull partners?
