Can I create static mappings within WINS to point 3 different servers all to the same IP address?

Servers 1, 2 & 3 all need to point to a certain IP, however only one of the servers will actually have that IP.

Another way to ask the question is can 1 server have 2 different WIN entries pointing to different IPs?

I am basically trying to fool pre-configured clients into going to one server when they actually point, netbios name-wise to another server.

All servers in question are W2k.

Take a look at network load balancing. it will let you set up a virtual IP that multiple servers can be configured with.

it will work via DNS though.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

you could always amend the local lmhosts files on the clients. Depending on what netbios node type is used this could work.
