HI

I'm sure someone can help me over this almost final hurdle.

I have recently been setting up WINS over a remote site and now have it working in part thanks to some help from professionals on this site. Now I can browse the main site from the remote site but I am not able to browse the remote server from the main site. I can however browse the workstations at the remote site.

The main sites primary WINS is the remote sites secondary WINS and vice versa. Is this right?

My set up is: -

Two sites, two domains, two DHCP's, 044/WINS and 046/WINS settings set up for ip address of their respective primary WINS servers at main and remote sites.

MAIN SITE
WINS setup on main site with push and pull on remote WINS.
Primary WINS server is the main site. Secondary WINS is the remote site.

REMOTE SITE
WINS setup on remote site with push and pull on remote WINS. Sceondary WINS is the main site.

The main sites primary WINS is the remote sites secondary WINS and vice versa. Is this right?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Helfenmir. I coudln't answer to first thread of you. These days I was really busy.
So, you set you WINS servers. As I can read is evrythig ok. WINS will help you to see the computers, not their contents!
To se the "content", actually the shared resources on a computer you have to have rights to that computer!
So, make the two domains to trust each other!
How? Go to User Manager for Domain (in Administrative Tools)in Windows NT server (one of them), Then choose from menu Policies. Then choose Trust Relationships. There you should add in both ( trusted and trusting) the other domain!

can you manage this? Again if you have problems... ask me. Even if sometime I cannot answer so quick.

Thanks GiaBetiu, you've been a great help.

Any idea's on this one?

Remote site workstations can log on to the main site, can browse and see contents of main site,s PDC, but, can not browse or see anything when looking from the remote site's PDC.

It works OK the other way, viewing the remote PDC from the
Main sites PDC.

Any idea's?

Thanks

Your servers have a fixed IP address. So, all parameters that stations receive them through DHCP, will not be set automatically on the servers.
Check WINS configuration in server IP settings, because in case that it cannot find a WINS it will try to broadcast, and broadcasts will not cross the routers (by default not).

Is the remote site's PDC set up as a WINS client of the main site's WINS server? That would explain the problem.

I would try adding a 003 Record to the DHCP for the Router. Also there is a MSKB about having different WINS address in Primary and Secondary WINS on the same server. The WINS address's should be the local servers address for both. Then create a replication partner for the Remote site in WINS Manager to Main and Vis-Versa. Then hit replicate now and wait about 30 min. and try viewing the remote site from Main.

Hope this helps.

Good Idea's everybody. I'll try that. Apologies for the delay.
