I am being asked to track logons and logoffs to the system, now I know I can use the auditing feature to do this but it is to time consuming to parse through the information to get to what they want for each department/person .Does anybody know of a third party utility or software that will do this?

2 ways :
1.just put a batches into the login/logout scripts that will create file ( named as date+time+LOGOFF/LOGON message string , into some shared dir on some server ( it won't kill the server )
2. just open the event viewer at the PDC and look at the security tab ...
you can export the info into *.csv file , and from there to excel ,
it is very convinient to work with excel in things like that ...
